The extract below is taken from an email from the Honary KCPA Club Secretary. The SPS Club Secretary will be contacting members asking them to complete a voting form.
There was much discussion at the last Delegates Meeting regarding the vexed subject of how future nature/wildlife competitions should be judged.
One avenue of thought was to follow the broad-based view that we have used up to now. Which we felt always allowed every chance of participation even for those not lucky enough to be able to travel abroad on safaris etc.
The second option would be to follow the lead taken by the PAGB/RPS and accept only work were there are strictly no signs what so ever of mans intervention i.e no man made structures in the background, no aircraft vapour in the sky, is the grass too green, might it be in England ? Followers of this view would argue that work entered as such would then be eligible to go on to compete at PAGB/RPS level.
A ridicules state of affairs happened at a recent exhibition when a technically brilliant image of a Blue Tit in flight was given a minimal mark due to the fact the bird was hovering over a milk bottle (mans intervention). The same author however had acceptances of two other shoots, one of a bird in flight leaving a barn (man made) and the second was of an owl perched on a tomb stone (also of cause man made). What a about a field mouse on a shaft of corn, is it mans intervention as the corn is grown by man? This really begs the question where do you start & end this very restrictive viewpoint ?
I have attached a voting form with three voting options, the first being the broad-based view, the second being the very strict regulations of the PAGB/RPS and the third category is for members that don’t mind either way or have no strong feeling on the matter.
It is fair to say we need clear guidelines from the majority of the membership to decide on our future course. Once chosen it would take some time to back track if found to be highly unpopular. So some consideration should be given to your voting. Club sectaries please note that a copy of this should be sent to each and every one of your members by e-mail (or post if necessary.) All replies to be sent via the club secretary to the KCPA secretary no later than Sunday 10th August. ( EXAMPLE if your club has 30 members, we would like to see 30 votes )
Kind regards
Zoe Archer
Hon Secretary KCPA.

This years London salon exhibition will be on display at the Cotton Centre, Hays Wharf from 28th. June until the 11th. July.
This is the only major international exhibition within easy reach of Sittingbourne and is always well worth a visit. The venue is just a couple of minutes from London Bridge Station and very close to HMS Belfast, the Mayor's Office etc., so there is plenty to photograph in the immediate area. Other attractions such as the Millenium Bridge and the Tate Modern are a short distance away.
If you want to keep up to speed with current trends in pictorial photography, this is the one to see.

I received the following email from a local photographer this morning. If you can help, either contact Mandy Marshall or Richard Walton. Thanks!
HI Richard
It was good to talk to you this morning.
I am after about 6 digital camera's to use whilst teaching youngster's from a charity called Canterbury Oast Trust. They are based in Ham street near Ashford and form part of the Rare Breed Centre.
They have asked if I will spare my time for free which I have agreed to do.
I just need some camera's to let them use,the more I have the more people I can help. I will do a really basic program with them but at the end hope to have an exhibition of their work.
If you know anyone with a camera It would be greatly received.
Thank you x
Regards
Mandy Marshall

There has been much controversy in recent years regarding what are and what aren't the rights of photographers.

Anne Mahany CPAGB, former President of the Southern Photographic Federation, has asked me to pass the word that her club, Fordingbridge, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee during 2008 and is marking the event with a Digital Image Exhibition open to all photographers.
Fordingbridge is a smashing club, and Anne and her husband, John are a great couple. It would really please them, and me, if SPS members would support their enterprise by entering work for consideration. An entry form is available from the link below. If you need any help with your entry, either see me at the club or give me a ring. Thanks in anticipation.

Gordon's funeral will be held at Vinters Park Crematorium on Friday, 8th. February at 11am
Fri 25 January 2008 |
It is with great sadness that I report the death of former SPS member, Gordon Pluck. Gordon suffered a massive stroke last July and was immediately admitted to Medway Hospital where he died peacefully yesterday morning.
Originally a member of Faversham Camera Club, Gordon joined Sittingbourne in the 1990's and was a member for several years. His first love was always monochrome printing and he left SPS to join Ag Mono in 2001. His stroke coincided with his decision to re-join SPS with me this season. Alas, it was not to be.
I feel sure that all who knew Gordon will join me in sending our heartfelt condolences to his wife, June and his Grandchildren.
I will post details of the funeral arrangements as soon as I am aware of them.
