About Us
Sittingbourne Photographic Society has been running in various venues throughout the town for 46 years. It was formed by a dozen or so members all who had completed a course in photography at the Sittingbourne Adult Education College.
Previous to this there had been a Sittingbourne Camera Club which folded when the premises were sold in which they held their meetings, one or two of those members are still with Sittingbourne Photographic Society (SPS) today.
SPS was a member of the Central Association of Camera Clubs now disbanded. The Kent County Photographic Association (KCPA) was formed and affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB): the Camera Clubs. Through these, SPS has over the years achieved top places locally, nationally and internationally with their photographic expertise.
We aim to promote photography in all aspects of the art through regular meetings throughout the year, with lectures, competitions, exhibitions, practical workshops, and outings. Through these we can educate ourselves and others in a diverse way in the techniques, whether it be in digital or the more traditional wet darkroom techniques.
Members of the Society provide judges and lecturers to other clubs throughout the county and beyond to benefit from our expertise. Our members also put together and provide AV shows for a great evening of interclub entertainment.
